Do yo
u know the infamous story of the Titanic, the greatest oceanliner built in her day? Â Or did you, like millions of people around the world see the blockbuster movie Titanic? Â Do you recall the portrayed reactions of many of the crew, staff and passengers once the ship struck the iceberg and was taking on water? Â How many ignored the obvious and chose to continue a non-reactive status quo pattern of behavior? Â How much valuable time was wasted in denial and inaction? Â How many opportunities were lost not to mention valuable human lives.
Now, fast-forward to 2011. Â I don’t know about you, but I sometimes find myself repeating some of those same unfortunate patterns like ignoring the obvious, staying with status quo and wasting valuable time in denial and inaction. Â I have missed opportunities and probably even inadvertently damaged my businesses, my health and even relationships by not reacting quickly enough because of fear of rejection, fear of change, insecurity and naivete’Â only to name a few.
So how can we learn to sharpen our reaction time to avoid sinking our own ships when we encounter life’s inevitable icebergs?
- Be curious and ask questions. Â Gather facts and information. Don’t try to read other people’s minds or expect them to read yours. Inquire and seek to honor the truth in all circumstances.
- Practice small risks everyday. Maybe a small risk could be something as simple as wearing a new color of shirt when you typically wear black. Â Maybe its taking the stairs, when you normally take the elevator. Â Or perhaps it’s saying “no” when people are accustomed to you regularly saying “yes”. Â Whatever it is, when the time comes for you to take a big risk, you will be less fearful because you will have built up a higher comfort level with the idea that calculated risks can actually be positive and empowering. Â You will waste less time feeling paralyzed by fear and doubt.
- Trust your gut instinct; you know “that feeling”. Â This is our intuitive self speaking, guiding and attempting to protect us from danger, pain or harm. Â Sadly, many of us dismiss this feeling, and just as the band on the Titanic did, keep playing our same old tune and behaving in the same old ways, even as the water is rising and our ship, be that our health, our business or our relationship, is sinking.
- Love yourself.  When we learn to truly love, honor  and value ourselves, we make better decisions and choices. Period.
- Carry a life-ring at all times. Â My life ring is my faith and a relationship with God. Â Maybe you call it universe, divine wisdom or something else, but faith is something that won’t fail you when life’s circumstances have you feeling like your ship’s hull was heavily damaged by an iceberg.
I would like to hear how you handle it when your life feels like you are aboard the Titanic….

Several years back before I became a member of MorningCoach.com I was living in a “victim” and “lack” mentality state of consciousness. I wasn’t clear about what I wanted in my life and I definitely was attracting all the negative energy into my life. I didn’t get it and I lost the ability to believe in myself. I eventually did turn the negative chatter around with coaching, courses, and reading. That wasn’t enough but thankfully I found the right tools and energy that I was looking for when I stumbled across MorningCoach.com through ITunes.
