Are You Lucky?

iStock_000016551674XSmall[1]Do you have the luck of the Irish? Luck is not based on leprechauns and four leaf clovers as in Irish folklore, but based on hard work, planning and belief.  Luck is defined as “to prosper and succeed through chance or good fortune.”  I believe being lucky is having a prosperous attitude and putting positive energy out to the universe.  Here are a few steps that will help bring more luck into your life.

Plan.  Every successful person has planned their success with a solid mission statement, goals, values and above all structure.  Get organized and find an organizational system that works for you to stay organized.  Set your dreams to paper and they will be realized.

Eliminate negativity.  Everyone has obstacles to overcome however; it is the successful people that have surpassed their issues because they forged on with a positive mental attitude.  Work 30 minutes every day on positive personal development.  Read inspirational books, watch positive videos and listen to pod casts.

Be different.  Who cares what others think! As you become prosperous with your eye on the prize you will develop new relationships with like-minded positive people.  Those that criticized are coming from a position of lack.  Get away from those who are angry and weed out those negative nellies in your life and don’t let the negative people in your life define your life.

Hard work.  Be the best you can be.  Continue to learn and invest time in yourself to get better at what you are doing.  Go back to school if you have to and do whatever it takes to be the best.  The hard work and investment will pay off.

Belief and persistence.  Believe in yourself and in what you are doing and anything is possible.  Catherine Ponder writes “Failure is success trying to be born in a bigger way, and persistence helps you to experience that greater result.”  Never give up!  You have to believe and have faith in yourself that whatever you want to happen will happen.  Live in the present moment, chill as it were and do the 1% improvement every day.

Don’t live your life with a “can’t do” attitude.  “Patience is a virtue” rings true on so many levels.  There will always be bends, detours in the road but with patience and persistence you will ultimately arrive at your destination.  You can have the “luck of the Irish” and manifest everything that this universe has to offer.  You will be justly rewarded!

Weighing the Heart

My first association of ideas with the word judgment and the heart brings the TV show, Judge Judy to my mind.  In this show the Judge is  always right and she uses  humor to point out a difficult situation bring a lightness of spirit to a challenging settlement where both parties feel they are right.

My family used to watch this program regularly.  For me this brought a sense of relief for on the screen in front of me I was viewing diversity in situations and people and always a sense of humor.  People had such different lives than I had and I enjoyed seeing the great variety of choices people made in the way they viewed life.

My family origin is Norwegian and has Lutheran Values.  The point of view was black and white.  It is a sin or not a sin.  The other fellow was not we and we were the right and correct ones living the right and correct ways or at least trying to. People in other countries were foreign with foreign ways and we could not see how they could act or live other than the way we were.

Now from a different perspective I can see a lot of humor in my upbringing and find myself smiling at my childhood and the times I lived through.

My first association with other ideas was in college while taking a class in Comparison of Religions.  This class opened my eyes to diversity and I began to see how others with different values and thought systems lived and thought.  We visited different churches and observed how they worshipped in my own hometown.

I was like the frog that had just found out that his small puddle was really part of a huge pond.  I was flabbergasted and wanted to learn more about this expanded view of the world.

We learned about how other cultures looked at the world.  One common thread was that we all ultimately come from the heart space of love.  I was in complete amazement. I felt like a new world had opened.

  • A world full of diversity not a world of right and wrong.
  • A world  living in dynamic historic times of change
  • A world where   hearts are opening into love

I believe life is about discovery, awareness, and choice.  Each of us is whole and perfect and has all the answers within..

How to change our judgments

  • Change self-talk
  • Ask, “How can I rephrase this limiting way of thinking”?
  • Know that the mind can’t resist answering a question
  • Embrace new words that explain same scenario.
  • Reach for thoughts that are positive and growth producing.
  • Smile as you discover better state of mind

As a coach I have observed that client’s self-judgment block feeling and life experience.   To overcome this natural tendency I encourage switching to a beginner’s mind. With a fresh look new joy and the fulfillment of discovery is realized opening up all kinds of new opportunities of joy, fulfillment and balance during new self-discovery.

The image I chose for this post was from a pastel painting of Ma’at , the Egyptian goddess of justice, truth and order that I had painted.  Ma’at weighs the heart against the weight of a feather.  A light heart can only be achieved by a lifetime of kind deeds and love.

This is a composite of the original pastel painting that I did after friends of mine returned from a trip where they helped people in Mexico to live a better life.

Motivation Required

motivation

Every now and again we all require time to kick back, retreat, regroup, regenerate, and simply be.  These times are healthy and must be scheduled and planned for.  But, what happens when you just cannot seem to get restarted.  What about the complete lack of motivation? You have listened to the coach cast, worked the daily compass, stared at your goals, mission statement, and vision.  You eat right, get plenty of sleep, exercise, and just cannot seem to get to #1 on your sacred six?  We all have those days.  How do you jump start your motivation factor?

sacred six1.  Check your personal values.  What are they?  Have you narrowed them down to your top three?  If so, when was the last time you relooked at them?  Are they still congruent with where you are now?

Vision

2.Revisit your vision. What is your vision for your life?  What were you sent here to do?  There is a huge difference between a vision and a plan.  Our vision is the big picture for our life. Remember life rarely works out exactly as planned, but the plan is the steps or action points to get there.

3.  What are your big whys?  Why do you want to do the things on your sacred six? Really dig in for the answer beneath the answer that really gets your blood pumping.  What makes your heart race?

walk

4.  If you are stuck:  Sometimes simply change of scenery can help you break through.  Get out of the house or office.  Take a walk.  Clear your head. Take some big sensual breaths.

5. One thing.  Decide on one thing you can do that will bring you the biggest dividend with the least amount of expended energy.  Sometimes it might be a phone call you are really dreading to make, balancing the budget, or whatever is nagging at you. Simply break the inertia. Do it.

joy

6.  Reward/ Celebrate.  Have a reward for completing #1.  Whatever it is:  a pedicure, a round of golf, lunch with a friend, surfing.   Reward your moving forward.  JB talks about high five moments.  I was slow to incorporate this into my life.  But after making a particularly painful phone call last week I actually hopped up and yelled “way to go Elgin!  It is about time.”

Grace and peace,

Lori

How to KNOW if You are a Survivor

iStock_000000226713XSmallI would imagine that every human will have a moment or perhaps several moments over the course of his/her life where they will have to survive a circumstance or event that maybe others could not or did not.  The definition of a survivor is someone who remains alive and continues to function and prosper despite hardships or trauma.

So what does it take to be a survivor?  What does it take to prosper despite hardships or trauma? From my perspective, here are a few to consider:

  • Knowledge–Survivors have a wide array of knowledge in diverse subject matter.  Some basic examples might be, knowing first-aid that could help you survive in an accident or minimize infection; or knowing money management and savings strategies that could be valuable in all economic cycles, particularly the one we have been impacted by in recent years.  There are many areas to consider, but the key word here is knowledge.
  • Never Give Up Mindset–Survivors don’t fill their thoughts with “I can’t” mentality.  They persevere and keep pressing forward against the odds offered by the economists, medical experts, family dynamics, community/environmental influences or whatever the situation may be.  They are determined and resilient.
  • Open to a Higher Source–Survivors will often say they find strength in God’s love.  By connecting to the power of the Holy Spirit, it is possible to have supernatural levels of joy, gratitude, peace and love.  Greater wisdom and discernment are found here as well. These things keep us truly alive and catapult us forward in any situation.  Joy, gratitude, peace and lover are the secret to bliss or  that untouchable “core” that all of us possess, but may not yet recognize.
  • Wait, Watch and Work–Survivors have tremendous levels of patience. Survivors don’t panic. They stay calm and focused in the situation. They allow life to have it’s flow, but watch for opportunities to seize and move forward.  They believe they will survive and work to improve the situation, hardship or trauma by keeping their thoughts in check, their faith built up and by working a plan.

Why is all this so important? What is the purpose? One thing to consider is that being a survivor gives others hope.  Being a survivor  encourages others to gain knowledge, to never give up, to open up to God’s love, and to watch over their thoughts and patiently wait for opportunities to progress.  Survivors help others find that inner strength to do the same.  How will you KNOW if you are a survivor?

Obtaining a prosperity mindset

Prosperity Sign

Having a prosperity mindset has been discussed many times and in many places in the Morning Coach Community. Having this mindset is a key to abundance. But how to we cultivate and keep this “higher level” mindset in a world where we are surrounded by lack thinking?

One of the most important keys is having a defined (i.e. written) life purpose and a set of defined (and specific)  goals. These two steps are crucial to moving forward in a positive way and gaining the prosperity you deserve! Yet many people have not even mentally taken them. Why? Is it because they are too hard to accomplish? Are these steps so nebulous in their nature that only a select few can truly understand how to accomplish them?

The answer to both of these questions is a resounding “NO!” They are, in fact, quite simple. The hard part is quieting your mind and your “self” long enough to focus on completing them. That, and quite possibly the fact that, once we write out our purpose and goals, we take responsibility for our own goals. Our society has this idea that we are not responsible for our own lives, nor do we need to be. Yet that is the exact mentality the US was built on! It’s exactly why the US, as a whole, has been so prosperous for over 100 years!

Once you commit your purpose and goals in life to paper (either physically or virtually), it becomes highly apparent who is responsible for attaining them…..you! There is no one you can look at to say it is their job to accomplish them. But it is through taking this responsibility that we gain the freedom to do what we want with our lives and be prosperous!

Don’t be afraid to be responsible for your own life and its’ direction. Step up and be accountable for making your life what you want it to be. For it is only through your own actions and thoughts that you can attain the prosperity that is yours for the taking. You just have to be willing to take the steps necessary to reach it!
