3 Tips to Avoid Overeating During the Holiday

Every year people have issues with overeating during the holidays. Today I challenge you to beat that issue. I am going to give you three tips that will help you meet this challenge.

1. Make every meal a spiritual meal

I think this is the most important thing you can do not only during holidays, but also throughout the year. When you approach your meals with gratitude and reverence you start to look at what you eat differently. You truly have a new respect for your food.

It is critical to understand the old cliche, “we are what we eat”. It is a cliche because it is true. Through the holidays and onward when you sit down to eat give thanks to the plant or animal you are about to consume. It is their energy that they are giving you that sustains you.

2. Drink more water

Take time to drink more water. You may have heard this before. The question is. Are you doing it? Make sure you are drinking plenty of water through the holiday season it will keep you full and help control your appetite. It is also very healthy to keep your body cleansed.

If you drink alcohol during the holidays it is important to stay hydrated. One of the things that makes a hangover so bad is dehydration. If you drink more water it will help you in this area. If you do drink make sure you drink in moderation and watch the calorie intake from too many drinks. Those nice sugary drinks taste good but are also full of calories and sugar that packs a wallop the next morning in the form of a nasty hangover.

3. Don’t be too strict

You need to have fun. Don’t beat yourself up or put massive restrictions on yourself. Have fun during the holidays. A lot of times a very tough diet you get on for weight loss actually does the opposite. You do it for a few days and then you binge.

You know what to eat and you know when you are cheating. Focus on the basics of eating healthy smaller meals instead of large meals and it will help you to avoid overeating.

MorningCoach.com Member Helps Children Around the World

I am really excited to announce a new book by one of our MorningCoach.com members Debbie Newhouse. I received my copy last week and just want to tell the world what Debbie is doing to help students and make the world a better place with this book.

Debbie is donating 100% of the profits from here book The Magic Seed to The School Fund. You can see some of the students who already have been helped by visiting Debbie blog here: Debbie Newhouse.

Here are some of the things Debbie shared with me on how MorningCoach.com helped her achieve her dream of becoming a children’s book author.

(1) I learned from MorningCoach that my immediate family and friends weren’t going to be wildly supportive (at least, at first). This was a helpful insight: my closest family saw writing a book as a “risk” and not be able to envision me as a serious author. It wasn’t that they were against it, it’s just that they were lukewarm. They knew me as having my “day job” and couldn’t really see the vision I had for myself. Knowing this helped me get past it – and helped me notice the other people in my life who lit up like a light bulb when I told them I was writing a children’s book!

(2) Getting a big why: I realized that I was keeping my book on the back burner because I didn’t have a “big why”. I didn’t need the book to be income for me – I had a job. So why commit to write it? When I found out about my friend Matt Severson’s nonprofit, The School Fund, which connects donors to students in developing countries to help them go to school, I realized I could use the book to help. By finishing my book, then donating all its profits to help these children – that would be a BIG WHY to finish!

(3) Investing in myself: I needed to learn to draw cartoons so I could illustrate my book myself. Once I had that as a Sacred Six, I discovered a cartooning class I could actually take through the Internet with an instructor in New Zealand! The class was really intensive, but I could do the drawing at home, then we shared photos of our sketches online to get coaching. It was amazing, and I got confident enough to illustrate the book. Then the whole thing came together in a very busy month!

Thanks, JB, for everything you and your team are doing. I’m listening every day!

Well Debbie, THANK YOU! For making a difference in the world. This is why we put MorningCoach.com together. Keep changing the world!

To get your copy today and help make a difference you can find the book on Amazon.com by clicking here: The Magic Seed

Creating a Budget with Google, Excel, or Numbers Spreadsheet

I discussed the importance of budgeting in today’s CoachCast Episode 1319. I described an easy budget that I have used for the past 10 years using a spreadsheet.  Over the years I have used various software to do it from Excel to Numbers, but now I am using a Google spreadsheet that just seems to work well for me.

In today’s Compass I put an image of the spreadsheet you can find it on page 5. To take it one step further I did a video to  help you see how I built this budget with a Google spreadsheet. I know it will help you to further understanding.

It truly is a simple way to budget. It keeps everything in order and you can track your inflows and outflows. The great thing is you can get a quick overview of your finances in a few minutes.

My morning routine is to listen to the CoachCast and work through my compass. I then grab my bank account information and plug it into the spreadsheet. I then have a real quick look at what is happening with my finances. It has become that simple and it feels so good to have that type of control.

One question a lot of entrepreneurs ask is, “I don’t have a consistent income what do I put in the income area? I would say estimate. After you use a system like this you will start to have a good idea of how much you are going to have coming in. In other words this does not have to perfect you just need to get an idea at the start of every month how much are you spending and how much you are saving.

Budgeting does not have to be a bad word. It is all about work flow. Once you have it set up. It should not take you more then 10 minutes to get a feel for where you are at. Being this on top of your finances feels amazing and if you have some debt you need to clear out this will give you the ability to see light at the end of the tunnel. In battling debt and financial struggle this mental clarity is critical.

I am sure this video will help you get you create your simple budget with a spreadsheet today. Good luck.

Five Steps to Creating a Personal Development Plan

It is amazing in all my years of study how many people have never taken the time to establish a clear personal development plan. You will find that most people spend more money and time planning their wedding day then they do their life. Their wedding is one day and their life? You get the point. It is no wonder most people are living in quiet desperation.

I have studied human performance and potential for the past twenty years and one of the reasons people don’t want to spend time on a personal development plan is that it takes work. Well here at MorningCoach.com we are helping you take away some of that excuse.

Personal Development Plan

Here are my five steps to creating a personal development plan so you can get on with your personal evolution.

  1. Get clear. It is important you get clear about what you are looking to achieve. This is the step where many people fail. They don’t take the time to really look at what they are looking to accomplish. Clarity is critical in any planning or problem solving it is also critical in developing your personal development plan.
  2. Organize your goals around that clarity. Know that you when you are truly clear about what you need to achieve the next step is to organize your goals around this clarity. Use the goal tool on MorningCoach.com to work through each of these goals and the steps that it will take to achieve them. Make sure you are very clear and specific with the goal and that you have a deadline for achievement. The MorningCoach.com system will help walk you through the goal.
  3. Breakdown the projects for each goal. Now you need to get to the work of execution. You need to plan the projects that are going to take you to your goals. This may be taking some courses or classes. Learning or getting better at a certain skill. You may read a book. Whatever the projects are they need to be mapped out. Here at MorningCoach.com we call these your Sacred Six projects. This means you are working on six main things and you don’t want to be doing more then six of these at any given time. If you have more then six a few will have to wait.
  4. The next step is to breakdown these projects into daily activities. These activities are what you will focus on a daily basis to complete the projects. These will normally fall into what we call our Sacred Six Daily here at MorningCoach.com. Once you have what you need to do daily you just move forward working on it consistently.
  5. The final step is to stay motivated. A lot of people lose interest in their personal development plan. To stay focused we created the MorningCoach.com CoachCast and Personal Evolution System. This system was created to help you stay motivated and keep you moving forward as well as giving you some amazing ideas along the way. Make sure you listen to the CoachCast and work through your Compass at least three times a week, five times would even be better. This will keep you motivated to stay on your personal development plan.

An example of a personal development plan would be this:

  1. I need to become a better writer to help my business.
  2. The goal is to be able to edit and write better within twelve months.
  3. The project will be to enroll to some online classes with Writers Digest.
  4. The daily activity will be to work through the classes and write six hundred words a day.
  5. I will then stay motivated by listening to the CoachCast on MorningCoach.com.

I am sure this will help you with your personal development plan. Here at MorningCoach.com it is truly about personal evolution and we want to give you the tools and the motivation to keep on moving forward and living your dreams.

It takes some work and some commitment, but it is your life not anyone else’s. The work you do today makes your tomorrows so much better and brighter. Focus on your personal development plan and make a commitment to it today.
