Spending Temptation!

iStock_000017435141XSmall[1]What is temptation?  Wikipedia defines temptation as: “A temptation is an act that looks appealing to an individual. It is usually used to describe acts with negative connotations and as such, tends to lead a person to regret such actions, for various reasons: legal, social, psychological (including feeling guilt), health, economic, etc. Temptation also describes the coaxing or inducing a person into committing such an act, by manipulation or otherwise of curiosity, desire or fear of loss.”

Spending temptation is all around us!  The holidays are fast approaching and already Christmas commercials are being shown on television! We are in a generation of instant gratification and “I want it now” mentality.  I know it is easy to succumb to the marketing temptations that surround us and spend money needlessly. I’m definitely not here to tell you how you should spend your hard earned dollars.  I just want you take another look at spending it with the right intention in mind.  It took me years to figure this out and I finally got it.  Catherine Ponders writes: “Money is wonderful because it is divine substance; that money is good when rightly used.”

Right Attitude.  It is important that you have the right attitude about money.  In Pink Floyd’s 1973 hit song: “Money so they say is the root of all evil today”.  No it isn’t.  Randy Gage eloquently states: “Money is infinite.  With the right prosperity consciousness, your abundance-and your ability to do good with it –grows every year.”   Sometimes money is tight but don’t fret over it.  Ask yourself “Is this a need or a want?”  If it’s a want, put some money aside each month so you can purchase that “want” at a later time; delayed gratification.

Give Something.   One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. I have always believed in this and several times a year I go through my house and package up the clothes, extra perishable food items and donate to shelters and the local charities in my community.  When I want something new in my closet I give it away first.  I practice the vacuum law of prosperity which in turn, invokes the law of reciprocity.  The more you give the more you get back. “You cannot get something for nothing, but that you can have the best of everything when you give full measure for the good you wish to receive.”

This final lesson I learned from Catherine Ponder really resonated with me regarding prosperity consciousness and having the right mindset about money and spending it.  “This is definitely not the time to talk lack, to withhold, or to practice stringent economy.  Instead, this is the time to use up to the last of your financial assets to the last penny – if necessary. If you withhold, talk about financial lack at this point, it will cost you double. Instead, look up mentally and give thanks for the substance you already have to send out.”   What I took from this lesson; when I pay all my bills (which I now call blessings) I send that money out as the bounty of God and “I sent it out with wisdom and joy”.  I live in gratitude and am thankful for the money I have in this moment.  I am doing what I love to benefit others and am richly rewarded for it.

Choose to Embrace the Day with Wonder

289116621This morning I woke up in a funk. This is most unusual for me.  I wondered if it might have been caused by the change in the season.  The calendar says we are heading into fall, but here in the Pacific Northwest summer just barely arrived.  Yesterday, I turned on the air conditioner.  No, I did not think it was the change in seasons.

As I made my cup of hot water, lemon, and cayenne pepper, I stretched and meandered about the kitchen.  I fed Zev, the wonder Scottie and Charlie, our elderly, fragile Persian cat. I wondered if it was Charlie’s illness.  No, that did not resonate not either.

DSC02410As I sat for my early morning meditation, my mind was busier than usual. I felt like it was Washington National Airport.  Thoughts were arriving and departing like jumbo jets.  With some deep sensual breaths, I settled in and enjoyed the stillness.  Thirty minutes passed like the a vapor.  The spirit of heaviness disappeared.  When I opened my eyes, the sun was beginning to peak through the shutters.

289126061I realized this is a new day.  I am brand new.  Today is a gift. I chose to reach out and embrace it. I am so grateful for the opportunity to enjoy this day. No matter how feel when we wake up, we have the choice! We can choose to embrace the day as a precious irreplaceable gift. How do you choose to start and live your day?

Choose Your Attitude

As another day draws quietly to an end, my mind is still and my heart is full. Today has been a precious gift and I am grateful. There was a time when I would have dwelled on the negative of this cold, snowy day. This attitude would have stifled the joy and left only gloom. But despite the canceled appointments, the disrupted plans, and wintry weather, I chose to be happy. Happiness, like love, is a decision.  2011-02-24_09-08-10_242
I canceled my plans and chose to snuggle in and enjoy the late winter snow. To my surprise, I found myself humming and remembering the trips to Austria and the sheer delight of living in Germany where snow was magical.  I sat in the silence and simply stared in wonder.
In between snow showers I took Zev, the wonder Scottie, out for his afternoon walk. He was a puppy again, bouncing through the snow drifts. The farther we walked, the deeper peace fell upon me. The Pacific Northwest was majestic walking amoung the ancient Douglas firs, with snow up to the knees of my jeans, and a happy bounding Scottie leading the way.  2011-02-24_09-08-28_344
Today was a gift because I paused and accepted it. I delighted in the transitions. Even the bone piercing cold that pierced failed to deter my joy.

As I crawl into bed, I am reminded of something someone once said: we cannot control our circumstances, but we can choose our attitude.

I’d love to hear how you changed your attitude!!!

Amazement of Abundance

Hawthorne Bridge Portland, Oregon

Hawthorne Bridge Portland, Oregon

Have you ever been to a new place where you are completely emerged in beauty, and with the perspective of amazement of abundance  at nature’s bounty?  This is how a plein air artist feels and experiences when they go to new places and paint. Today our group went to a high vista and painted the Hawthorn Bridge in Portland, Oregon.

Plein air: En plein air  is a French expression which means “in the open air” and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors in natural light.  The light and nature are the master teacher for the artist and their creations. I feel it is a direct contact with the great creator, God, or universal force.

We were on the next to the top floor of a parking structure and painted this scene. It was a cold winter day and the energy was busting with the noises of a parade across the bridge and the remains of fall leaves added color and the canvas became full of paint applied with stucato and ligato strokes as feeling of fun ran through my  brush strokes as I applied the paint.  I painted quickly and with the momentum of the energy of cold day, cheers from parade, and inner amazement of the scene before me.

I received a welcome phone after the painting was finished and in my gallery on Fine Art America call from a magazine called “Country Pleasures” with an even welcomer request. The magazine wanted to feature my Art on their cover with five of my other images and a bio in side. What great publicity. I had to scramble to get things in by their deadline but fortunately I was well prepared so was able to do it in just a few hours.

The message here is the Boy Scout Moto “Be Prepared” and hold the intention that you will get those calls of opportunity.

Keeping positive thoughts is where all opportunity, synchronicity, and pleasure is manifested. Anytime we are feeling good and full of the energy of the thoughts that make us strong we are in abundance and the resistance to getting what we do not want is gone. With this wall of resistance taken down abundance of opportunity can find us and manifest. I am so grateful for learning this “Law of Attraction”. I am continually astonished at how well this all works. I use these ideas in both my Life Coaching Business and my Artistic Career and to keep myself happy and fulfilled. I have a good life.

How is this accomplished you ask?

  1. Change thoughts to ones that make you strong not weak
  2. Find a time when you had the strong thought or look around see the thought you desire and feel it in your body
  3. Be aware and stay in amazement at synchronicities
  4. Look for opportunities of giving service.
