Creating a Budget with Google, Excel, or Numbers Spreadsheet

I discussed the importance of budgeting in today’s CoachCast Episode 1319. I described an easy budget that I have used for the past 10 years using a spreadsheet.  Over the years I have used various software to do it from Excel to Numbers, but now I am using a Google spreadsheet that just seems to work well for me.

In today’s Compass I put an image of the spreadsheet you can find it on page 5. To take it one step further I did a video to  help you see how I built this budget with a Google spreadsheet. I know it will help you to further understanding.

It truly is a simple way to budget. It keeps everything in order and you can track your inflows and outflows. The great thing is you can get a quick overview of your finances in a few minutes.

My morning routine is to listen to the CoachCast and work through my compass. I then grab my bank account information and plug it into the spreadsheet. I then have a real quick look at what is happening with my finances. It has become that simple and it feels so good to have that type of control.

One question a lot of entrepreneurs ask is, “I don’t have a consistent income what do I put in the income area? I would say estimate. After you use a system like this you will start to have a good idea of how much you are going to have coming in. In other words this does not have to perfect you just need to get an idea at the start of every month how much are you spending and how much you are saving.

Budgeting does not have to be a bad word. It is all about work flow. Once you have it set up. It should not take you more then 10 minutes to get a feel for where you are at. Being this on top of your finances feels amazing and if you have some debt you need to clear out this will give you the ability to see light at the end of the tunnel. In battling debt and financial struggle this mental clarity is critical.

I am sure this video will help you get you create your simple budget with a spreadsheet today. Good luck.

Personal Development Experiment: Acupuncture Week 2

I am starting to document some of the personal development experiments that I am doing here on the MorningCoach.com blog. I think it is important that in my quest to gain more knowledge and find the best in human performance and development I start to open up some of the research I am doing. That does not mean that I am recommending the things that I am experimenting with. It means that I am going to just let the MorningCoach.com members into my life a little more. Always remember, when it comes to fitness, exercise, or anything to do with your health, consult your local health care professional. These are my experiences not to be construed as medical advice.

Last week was my first week at Yangs Acupuncture. I am going for general health purposes. I am not looking to “fix” anything I am doing this to improve my performance and have an overall better quality of life.

This week I headed in for my second week with the needles. I have to say I had zero pain on the needle insertion this week. They where placed in the standard areas of the neck, head, arms, legs, knees, and elbows. I had a slight twinge of pain when he placed one in my foot but other then that I was good.

I relaxed for twenty or thirty minutes and the Doctor came back in to take the needles out. It was a pretty uneventful second trip until he said he had Chinese Herbs for me this week. I was like, “super cool!” He brought me in these two herbs combinations. One for kidneys and the other for stress.

The fist one for stress is Shu Gan Wan. I have to take six of these very tiny globes three times a day thirty minutes after meals. The other one for the kidneys is Wu Zi Yan Zong. I have to take eight of these in the same matter thirty minutes after meals.

I started the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) herbal treatment today with my first 14 globules just after lunch.

Personal Development Experiment: Acupuncture Week 2

My Chinese Herbs for the Week (Numbers Are How Many I Need To Take)

I am going through green week here at the annual Mike Lee Kanarek boot camp so I have been pretty rundown all week. We are detoxifying this week and letting the inflammation in our body go down. I have not been 100% in fact I am running at about 80%.

One thing I can say about acupuncture is when I finish I just have massive energy. It is like a switch comes on. My feeling on well being and happiness is off the chart. More so then when I do normal personal development such as reading or meditating. I am not sure why, but it is really working for me. Since it is green week I have not had the massive training regiment that I normally go through. Next week I will be able to report more of the physical progress that I am making. But overall after two weeks. I feel less stressed and more relaxed. Plus, just happier.

This personal development experiment has been a great one so far. Much more to come as I get into more of the weeks. We are just getting started and my energy levels are off the charts.

The Sleep Experiment – Living with ZEO the Sleep Expert

Learn about Zeo, a new home sleep monitor

I am really getting into the quantified self movement. I am starting to track a lot of different areas in my life. I feel that the more personal data you can have on yourself the better your health, energy and quality of life will be. One of the coolest areas that I am now tracking is sleep with the ZEO.

ZEO is the real interesting piece of equipment. It is truly a personal sleep coach in a device. A few nights a week I slip on my ZEO headband. This measures your sleep patterns using ZEO’s Softwave sensor technology, which has been scientifically-demonstrated for accuracy. It takes a little getting used to, but I find it does not disrupt my sleep at all.

The cool thing is I am using the bed side display. It looks like a regular alarm clock (opportunity clock here at MC). It is great it tracks things like how long it took me to fall asleep, how much restorative sleep I got and my ZQ score. The ZQ score is really what I love. It is a simple number that represents how I slept.

The other feature I really like is SmartWake it is a special option in which ZEO searches for the optimal time to wake you based on your sleep patterns so you can start the day more easily. This is a fantastic tool.

The deeper feature with ZEO is the myZEO online program. I have not really explored it totally yet, but it allows you to input data directly from ZEO. Then you can track many sleep trends over time. You can also learn the latest in sleep research. This is a very powerful program.

It is an amazing device. They even have a new mobile device that works with the iPhone. Super Cool!

The question that I get asked the most is, “how does it help you sleep?”

Having the data for me is the key. The ZQ score is what I truly like to work with. What I do is write down the activities I did for the day and  track the food I ate in my food journal. I look for the correlation between a high ZQ score and an activity I did or a food I consumed.

If I am training super hard one day and need a great night sleep. I look at my journal to see what I did to get that great ZQ score before. By replicating that meal or activity I then can get a better night sleep. As busy as I am I try to keep my research simple. This really works for me.

I also do tests. I will play an action game on my PS3 and then go to bed to see the score. It is amazing that if I play a game right before I go to bed how bad I sleep. I also have tested reading. It is amazing the difference between non-fiction and fiction scores. I sleep better after fiction then non-fiction. I have also tested spiritual texts and personal development books. Both of those came in pretty close with good ZQ scores.

As you can see you can test many things. What I love about it is it is your data, not someone else’s. You are truly working on your sleep score looking to improve.

With ZEO you can run your own experiments to work on getting your best night sleep.

I do not have sleep issues. If you do. I would recommend getting even deeper with the myZEO online program. There is an amazing amount of detail and information there. The ZEO team are truly the experts in the sleep arena.

I don’t recommend too many products, but I love my ZEO. To get yours just click on the banner below and you can order directly from ZEO. We will also include a link in our daily newsletter. Be sure to post in the community some of the experiments you are running I would love to hear some of them. We can all learn to get a better night sleep. Getting up with amazing energy comes from a good night sleep. I believe ZEO can help you do that.

How Do You Truly Have Vision? Steve Jobs and His Ideas

Today I was sent a YouTube video that totally rocked my world once again. It was called Steve Job’s Vision of the World. I believe it originally aired on PBS. I think it is one of the most powerful 1 minute videos I have seen. If you just look at the basic idea of how he saw the world.

I think so many times we get so competitive and we worry so much about other people we lose site of our own genius, our own greatness. It is important in doing our personal development work that we start to find true mentors who understand this principle. In this industry of self help there are many ideas shared but one of the most fundamental ones that is needed is belief in ourselves.

Moving past the conditioning that we are getting from everywhere else and finding the truth that their is genius in each and everyone of us. I started MorningCoach.com with this idea. I knew the conditioning that I was receiving from others was keeping me back and that there must be a better way. That better way comes from inside not from out.

In order for this to happen you must start to see things differently. You must think differently. You must get different information to build this belief which is going to take you to your dreams.

I think Steve Jobs figured this out at a very young age. You know he thought differently. Even at Apple the theme was “Think Differently”. I hope you take some time today to reflect on your inner greatness and your genius. The world needs it. We need you to be the best that you can be.

I will be bringing many more ideas and motivation to the MorningCoach.com community. It is because of you I can dedicate my life to making the world a more positive and better place. Lets keep working together to keep this movement of positivity strong. I think Steve Jobs would approve.
