WANT OR INTENTION?

I consider the act of wanting as passive. It is defined as “the desire to possess or do something.”  I equate this to children at Christmas time or around their birthday making a list of what they want to receive for gifts and then just waiting around for the special day to hopefully receive their  requests.

iStock_000012723220XSmallIntention is the grown-up version of wanting. The definition of “intention” is “an aim that guides action; an objective; a course of action that one intends to follow.  Therefore, instead of just sitting around and waiting for it to happen, we put forth effort to ensure that what we desire comes to fruition.

In the physical sense of intending, we study hard while in school to get the grades required to be accepted into the college of our choice, we perfect our craft with a multitude of practice hours on the football field or dance studio and we are conscientious once in the ranks of the workforce in order to climb the ladder to management.

Have you thought about intention in the metaphysical sense to up the score? It is also possible to increase the probability of our desired outcome by setting forth intentions to ourselves, God and the Universe for what we are going to manifest.  Doing this solidifies a determination and, more importantly, a belief, that what you desire will be yours.

You can send your intention out into the world by visualizing the manifestation of your desire with great detail. Be very specific in all the minute details.  Putting your visions and dreams down on paper, either in a story or picture format, also helps solidify your thoughts, turning them into beliefs, giving you something more concrete to keep by your side.

For successful intending and living, it is important to nurture our body, mind and spirit in order to be open to receive. God and the Universe are always on our side and will bend over backwards to align the stars for us.  However, we need to make sure we first align ourselves by being as healthy as possible in order for the energy to flow through, unobstructed.  Keeping our body healthy is best accomplished by eating pure, unprocessed foods, as close to their original source as possible, to give us the needed nutrients to function at optimal health.  It is also a wonderful idea to slow down and really give thought about what we are eating as well as bless the food, its source and the energy it possesses, before taking that first bite.  We also need to keep our muscles strong, our bodies limber, and our heart pumping through cardio, stretching and resistance-training exercises.  Our spirit can be exercised, as well, through singing praise, prayer, meditation, journaling, attending church services plus whatever methods you prefer in order to stay connected to your source.  Our minds will stay healthy by allowing positive messages to come in while excluding the negative, continuing to learn and keeping an open mind.

Intention can be used for every facet of our lives from intending to have a fabulous day when you wake up in the morning, to intending to travel safely with no incidents or accidents on the way to work, to meeting just the right people to help you catapult your business into the heavens, to finding your soul mate.  You are limited only by your desire and imagination.

Don’t live passively through life…live with intention.

Making That Tough Decision!

Decisions sign in the skyFor so many people making decisions do not come easy and most daily decisions are made without thought and come from a reactive position filled with emotion.  What about those tough decisions? Fear of failure and making the wrong decision can lead you to live your life filled with resentment, stuck and empty.  Last year I had to make one of the toughest decisions of my life and had to embrace that fear head on.  I wasn’t happy at work and found the leadership and management values were not congruent with my own personal and professional values. I just wasn’t where I wanted to be in my life. There were other factors involved, but the bottom line was I wanted to retire early.  I wanted to take that leap of faith and work for myself and follow my heart and my passion.  I did not want to spend another 5 to 10 years in a job that did not make me happy.  I didn’t want to settle in the world of mediocrity.  Here are some of the strategies that helped me and can help you make that hard decision.

I asked myself one fundamental question: How is this job serving me and the greater good?  I knew at a deep intuitive level that it was time to change. I couldn’t imagine or see a future in it. The job was not serving me nor serving the greater good.  I believed in myself and listened to my intuition to follow my calling.

Stop to get clarity.  Early in days of frustration there were times when I just wanted to quit.  I knew this was coming from a position of overwhelming emotion so I stopped!  Once I stopped thinking and reacting, took a few deep breaths I began to have clarity and the tension subsided.  Before you have to make a difficult decision, stop and take time to breathe and ruminate on the possible results and action of your decision before you commit to it.  You will find clarity to make that decision.

Talk it out.  I knew that retiring early would affect my family.  I wrote out the details of my decision and then discussed it with my spouse.  It is important that you discuss your plans going forward so that when you do make the decision you are supported.  We worked out all the angles knowing that by losing that extra income would have an impact on our financial situation.  We covered all the basis.

No backing out.  Once you make that difficult decision there is no backing out.  Make the decision, commit to it and then move on.  Pay attention to your feelings, it’s natural to feel nervous but if you are listening to your heart you will know in the long run that the decision was right and you will feel more at ease.

When I make a tough decision I make it with the right intention in a positive way and know with all my heart I am serving my higher self.  I did retire in January of this year after over 30 years of a public service and a military career.  I am now living and pursuing my dream as a Personal Development Coach.

Do you have a Bucket List?

Bucket List

Bucket List

“I saw my Dad kick the bucket”

I felt this was his final message to me after he had left this world and entered the next.  I had closed my eyes and ask for a message and in my minds eye I saw my Dad kick a bucket.  Everyone was so sad and so was I but the message was not one of sadness but humor and now as I think of Dad and his parting message and the class I finished this summer I have a smile on my face because I have found out the making a bucket list is a way of bring wonderful adventure into your life

I am thinking of this concept of the bucket from another angle today adding deeper learning to my consciousness.  I have just finished a class by Joyce Schwarz, called “LIVE YOUR BUCKET LIST SUMMER 2011”.  Joyce is a best selling author and speaker and has written “The Vision Board Book that was on the #1 Bestseller list for Amazon for 26 weeks and is the founer of The Vision Board Institute in Marina Del Rey, California.

Schwarz says, “My LIVE YOUR BUCKET LIST class takes a new spin on the exercise because it encourages you to add images to your wish list of activities. This way it complements your Vision Board and other life planning techniques by empowering you to see your future NOW! Plus it’s more fun our way–to picture you sky diving or standing by the pyramids.”

In the class we were to list 10 things that we would like to do this summer.  We were encouraged to suspend disbelief, reach for the moon and compile the list.

The bucket list concept has been around for a long time But was brought more to our consciousness in 2008 by Rob Reiner’s comedy-drama film “The Bucket List” starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.  The main plot reveals an adventurous road trip by the two with a wish list of things to do before they “kick the bucket”.  The movie ends with the last item being crossed off the list, as their ashes lay high in the Himalaya Ian Mountains.  That item was “witness something truly majestic”.

Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done. Louis D. Brandeis

In compiling my list I found myself listing unexpected items.  One such item was travel to exotic places.  This way of thinking brought out an adventurous spirit of all that is possible.  I felt like Tinker Bell when she said, “I can fly, I can fly”.  I also realized that many items reflected what I was experiencing in my coaching business.  I realized that I thought of my business as having as much fun as traveling to exotic places.

The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss, but that it is too low and we reach it. Michelangelo

I have a deep satisfied smile on my face as I write this as I remember the answer to another question asked to a mentor, which I highly value.  The question was, “What teaching should I take with me where ever I go”.  His answer “Be Happy”.

Today I feel the wisdom of his words.  I am truly happy in this moment, writing this bog post.  My heart is full of memories that feed lofty thoughts.  My stomach feels warm in side as I sip my skinny Carmel macchiato.  My eyes filled with the scene around me in Boarders Book Store of others deeply engaged in conversation, reading a book, or typing on their computers.  Magic and fulfillment comes moment by moment and by realizing happiness is in the excitement of anticipation and experiencing.  The anticipation of the next new idea as it bubbles forth and the happy satisfaction of witnessing something truly majestic, this beautiful now moment.

PITY PARTY

Not too long ago I saw a facetious invitation to a “pity party” over Facebook from a friend of mine. At that time, I replied, with, “What can I bring?”  Others replied with words of encouragement as well as some other silly comments.  The next day, out of the blue, something unforeseen and rather undetectable got underneath my craw.  It was like I had just picked a Go-Straight-to-Jail-Do-Not-Pass-Go-Do-Not-Collect-$100 card on the board game of life.  I hate when that happens!!  I felt I hadjust lost all the positive progress I had made all in one fell swoop.

iStock_000016637249XSmallAs I was conversing, or really “letting it all out”, with one of my friends on my way to “jail”, via the detour around start, I was trying to figure out the reason behind my upheaval. Why was I so agitated, and even more importantly, why was I ALLOWING myself to become so agitated?   I know better!  I teach this stuff for goodness sake!  I decided I would just observe it for what it was, relax and allow it to pass, which it did, but it got me thinking…

We all have our little moments from time to time that throw us out of whack, wreaking havoc on our emotions and confusing the heck out of our normal rational thinking. When that happens, it is usually because we are thinking with our emotions, or feelings, instead of with our brains.  If we can’t seem to shake it on our own, and don’t have the benefit of a coach, maybe a pity party is exactly what the doctor should order.  HOWEVER, instead of bringing pity, our friends could bring some fun, love, snacks, a new perspective from which to choose, and maybe, a wet noodle in which to beat us for our self-destructive behavior.  :)  What better way to get back on track than with our friends and a little humor!!!

In order to host a pity party, however, you will have to admit something is wrong. I see many people who lead closed lives because they are afraid to reveal that they are human, have weaknesses, have the need for growth and could possibly benefit from being open to new ideas.  Sometimes people are wrapped up in worrying about what others might think of them or wanting their “business” to be private.  I say, who cares!!  I know we all have more important things to focus on rather than what others are thinking.  Why should we care if anyone knows our financial status?  Why do we worry about what brand of clothes we wear?  Why do we fret about people knowing our past, something we can’t change?   Our material things do not define us.  Our past is just that – our P-A-S-T.  The power is in the NOW.  That is all we can control.  We can control giving help when we can and asking for help when we need it.

Realizing we are not alone in this game of life and allowing ourselves to be trusting and transparent enough to reach out for help can be very beneficial. Why suffer in silence when allowing your vulnerability to show by reaching out for help can deliver relief either from illuminating a new way in which to see the situation or just breaking the bonds that tie you into your mood with a little companionship and/or some comic relief?  The thing is, the more we concentrate on the problem, the bigger our problem becomes.  Either concentrate on a solution, or change your concentration all together.  If you choose the later, you might as well have fun with it and throw yourself a PITY PARTY and let me know what I can bring!

We are suppose to feel good!!!

"We Are Suppose To Feel Good"

"We Are Suppose To Feel Good"

Balance is all around me in my planet, soil, water, flora and fauna. I observe changes everyday as I walk, drive, paint or look out the window at an ever-changing landscape.  The artist knows that the best teacher of great art is nature and if you really want to progress you should paint outside in plein air.

En plein air is a French expression, which means “in the open air” and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors in natural light.  The light and nature is the master teacher for the artist and their creations.

To be stable in day to day life is truly a work of art as well and each of us is the artist of our well being.  Everyday we are presented with changes and expansive opportunities and stability is achieved as long as we do not outstrip our abilities to find balance.  It is not only the laws of physics that are enough to absorb the shock of any changes but our individual vibration, out individual feeling of well being

Did you know that we are really supposed to feel good?

I find this ability to align with my broader higher vision through life coaching.  Time after time I have felt resistance to feeling personal well-being and have taken it to a coaching session and have been able to re align with my highest vision and life purpose through the noble profession of coaching either giving or receiving coaching sessions.
