Journey Distractions

mom and baby

Ok, Morning Coach people, you think you have issues meeting your goals?  Check out the saga of the Klamath River whales.  Here is this mother and baby Pacific gray whale gently swimming in the Klamath River, minding their own business, doing their own thing.  After about a month, the baby heads back to the open ocean.  The mother, content on her own journey, continues to leisurely swim around in circles in the river.

The gentle giant calmly ignores them and goes on about her own personal development and goals.  She does not let them divert her focus or attention.  She continues to swim in the river – up the river, under the bridge, and back down the river.  Every day, consistently.  Not once does she lash out at the people that think they know what is best for her. No angry splashing, no overturning their boats, just a gentle steady progress on her route.  In fact, mostly she ignores them.   She doesn’t try to argue with them or dissuade them from their goals of diverting her.  Instead she let’s them do what they are doing and gracefully continues on her own personal journey.

Now I don’t pretend to understand what she is doing in that river anymore than I understand what you are doing in your own personal river.  But this I do know, whatever she is doing or whatever you are doing, it’s because it is the right journey for your own personal growth and development.  It doesn’t really matter if others understand or embrace your personal goals.  What matters is that you – like the whale – understand your journey  and consistently work towards it.

Next time you have friends, family, acquaintances, or even strangers trying to divert you from your journey, think of the whale – stay the course, be consistent, be gentle and courteous, and stay focused on your own personal goal.  Let nothing distract you.

Staying Positive in a Lack Relationship

The Morning Coach community is built of individuals of like minds. We may represent different genders, races, religions, countries, education, occupations, socioeconomic levels, beliefs, and life experiences, but we share the common thread of the desire for continual, positive, forward-moving personal evolution in order to make the world a better place.  We are here to love and support one another by sharing ideas, celebrating the successes, and offering encouragement during the setbacks.

half full or half empty? Our thoughts and actions can be compared to the old half-full, half-empty glass-of-water metaphor. We strive to see the world from the perspectives of love, abundance, gratitude, growth, positive energy, support and enthusiasm.  Unfortunately, everyone in our inner circle of family and friends may not be on this same page.  Adversely, some people tend to come more from the perspectives of fear, lack, complaints, stagnation, negative energy, jealousy and depression.  Exposure to people who see the world from these perspectives can be extremely draining and detrimental to our spirit and our growth.

What can you do if you find yourself in this situation? First of all, it is important to realize that you cannot force anyone to change or see things from your perspective.  We often get so excited about our new knowledge and experiences that we want to share them with the world, believing deep in our hearts that everyone will be happier and better for it.  However, not everyone is in the same place on their journey through life, and some people are not ready to receive this information.  If you choose, you can offer to share what you have learned and your point of view.  If you find open reception on the other end, great, if not that is okay too.  However, you can express your desire to stay in a place of positivity and ask that they keep their less-than-positive outlook to themselves or at least not express it in your presence.  If it gets too overwhelming, you might need to limit the time you spend with these people.

Since growth and creativity grow in abundance in a high-energy environment, it is vitally important that you do not allow naysayers to drain your energy. Since we cannot avoid these people all together, especially if they are part of our family, it is important to lead by example and do what we can to maintain ourselves at the highest level possible and replenish our energy levels when they drop.

WAYS TO MAINTAIN POSITIVE ENERGY:

  1. Connect to our higher self through quieting the mind, meditation and prayer.
  2. Spend time alone in nature.
  3. Create a list of gratitude items when journaling.
  4. Connect with like-minded people, both locally and virally.
  5. Continue to introduce positive information through reading books, blogs or articles.
  6. Listen to positive and/or spiritual podcasts or books on tape.
  7. Participate in quality masterminds on a regular basis.

Stay the course, and keep the faith; together we will collectively raise the consciousness of the planet.

Releasing The Whirlwind in My Head: Mind Dumping

Whirlwind

I don’t know about you, but I usually feel like there is so much information and so many ideas swirling around in my head that I feel like they might escape out my ears. At any given moment, I am thinking about what needs to be accomplished that day, what calls I need to make, what I need to investigate, etc.  With all of this going on at one time, it is nearly impossible for me to focus on anything.

I have discovered that “mind dumping”, or writing down on paper everything that is flying around in my head, works like deleting the temporary files in my computer. When I transfer all the thoughts and ideas that inundate me onto paper, I free up space inside my brain and am able to focus on the tasks at hand and actually accomplish things.  I no longer worry about any of it because I keep it close by and know I can look down at any given moment and “see” what needs to be done as well as add to the list any new thought, idea, or to-do racing past the window of my mind’s eye like the Wicked Witch of the West and Toto during the twister.   This might seem like a no brainer, and it is, but too often we don’t take the time to do it.

It took me a while to realize this, but becoming lax in this department actually has a profound affect on my day and my mood, as well as has a trickle-down effect on those around me in the form of a lack of undivided attention and loss of  positive physical and mental energy. When I feel organized, both in my physical space and in my head, I am gung-ho and ready to take on the world.  I am clearly focused and productive, and my creative juices flow much more easily.  When I do not feel organized and my space is not organized, I tend to start and stop a number of different things, essentially not moving forward in anything and feeling guilty as a result.  Have you ever noticed how great you feel when you have completed a task, especially if it is something you have put off for some time?   It feels amazing and does wonders in allowing you to realize your awesome self worth.  You stand a little taller and your presence expands.

For those who follow JB Glossinger and Morning Coach, you know how strongly he believes in having the right structures in place for optimal productivity. He developed a wonderful system and coined the term Sacred Six To-Dos and Sacred Six Projects, which are amazing and work perfectly. Through trial and error, I have found that taking it one step further and writing down EVERYTHING I can think of and separating these items into separate categories, accentuates the sacred lists and works the best for me.

Things to do list
The more organized we are, the more we can truly focus our energies.  Try it.  You will be amazed at how much more you will get done in a shorter amount of time and how much better you will feel.

I believe we are all here to help each other, so if you have any tips you would like to share or would like to leave feedback on what you have just read, I would love it!  Thanks in advance.

Big Hugs,

Leslie Brice

TAKE THE LEAP – EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC

IMG_2552I just returned from the Morning Coach Mastermind Retreat. It exceeded my expectations and I believe everyone else’s as well. The attendees were from different backgrounds and came from all areas of our country. The one thing we had in common and ultimately brought us together was JB Glossinger and Morning Coach. None of us knew exactly what to expect, but we trusted and believed, left uncertainty and fear at home and tapped in to our gut with the “knowing” that this is what we were supposed to do and in doing so were magically blessed.

We were introduced and exposed to AMAZINGLY POWERFUL individuals whose stories definitely left us impressed and inspired. In particular, we met with Billy Beck, III President and CEO of BB3 Personal Training and Performance Center in south Florida and has been voted MET-Rx World’s Best Personal Trainer and was named the PEAK and Personal Fitness Professional Magazine Personal Trainer of the Year. Billy trains the likes of Olympic and Professional athletes as well as actors on the silver screen. Billy’s story and expertise, as well as his passion and energy left us in awe.

After Billy, we met the most dynamic person I have ever had the pleasure to come in contact with, Mike Lee Kanarak, who served in Israel’s Defense Forces. With a “Hands On” military experience and a 20 year Combat Sports Martial Arts career, Mike has developed a world-class Reality Fighting system, HaganaH, proven to work under pressure. He has been sought out by many professionals from countless law enforcement agencies and elite military units. Mike’s presence and posture, alone, elicits respect, his story is phenomenal, and his outlook on life is unbelievably unique and extremely powerful. It was truly a meaningful encounter.

Thirdly, we spent time with Eddie Rodriguez, a kind soul who has undergone and overcome a series of tragedies and has now made it his personal mission to spread happiness wherever he can with the simplest gestures of a smile and a wave. He leads by example and left us realizing how easy it is to pay it forward.

Even though our introduction to these powerful individuals was fabulous and life changing in their own right, the magic that truly happened was experiencing all of this with like-minded people who came together by following their intuition, taking the leap, and trusting the process. None of us knew each other before meeting on that first day, but we all left as treasured friends with a deep feeling of gratitude for what we experienced together. We all verbalized that it was going to be near impossible to articulate the depth of value we received during this week, as the mere explanation of our activities would not do it justice – it was the “feeling” of the encounter that made it outstanding.

We all departed with a heaviness in our hearts due to the separation as well as an appreciation of the experience, our new-found friendship, the deep bond we will share going forward, and the gift of of the magic of life we gratefully received while together.

Life is chock full of these magic opportunities, but if we live out of fear and find every excuse why we can’t take the chance, we will never know what we are missing and where it can lead us. Trust your intuition and JUST DO IT!!!

A smarter 2011

2011As I write this, it’s the last week of 2010. This is the time of year that many people will begin to think about making New Year’s resolutions. And, as JB said on the Monday Coachcast, some people will stick to them and some will have them fall by the wayside within a short period of time.

It seems we all find the beginning of a new year is a great time to rethink things in our lives and decide what we want to change. While this is usually done with the best of intentions, many people don’t put in either the foresight to set realistic goals, or choose goals they want, but don’t perform the necessary follow-through. We tend to make resolutions like “I’m going to get in shape again” or “I’m going to lose weight”. Both of these goals are great initially, but we need to take a few other steps to make them more “meaningful”!

In reality, a resolution is nothing more than a goal. It’s just made at a specific time of the year. So, for 2011, I would like to challenge everyone reading this to not just make a few New Year’s Resolutions, but instead begin making some SMARTER goals! The SMARTER system is something that makes goal setting, tracking, and achievement much more possible than simply stating a resolution. The acronym “SMARTER” stands for:

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A _ Achievable

R – Realistic

T – Timely

E – Evaluated

R – Reviewed

The last two (E and R) form the basis of the PDCA method I spoke of in my podcast a couple of weeks back.

And, to make it a more positive experience, set a goal that is not necessarily all-encompassing or that requires life-changing attitudes of adjustments. Start with something like committing to waking up 30 minutes early to listen to Morning Coach and work through the Compass before you start your day. Or, if you’re like many in the world today who feel pushed for time, set a goal of arriving for work or meetings at least 15 minutes early (as opposed to just in time or even late). By choosing a goal that requires an adjustment and/or a stretch in your life, but doesn’t cause a total upheaval of it, you set yourself up for success. And in doing so, you give yourself positive feedback and reinforcement for continuing with the rest of your goals.

Starting the New Year by making your resolutions goals as opposed to just statements and committing to a system like Morning Coach will increase your chances to reach and achieve them. This coming year, commit to yourself and to making yourself better and happier!

Here’s to starting the New Year in a SMARTER way and making 2011 the BEST year of your life yet!
